This is the founding vision of the Association, enshrined in its Constitution. It remains our North Star.
In an era defined by climate disruption, digital transformation and the rise of artificial intelligence, we read it as a call to action: to convert professional knowledge, diaspora networks and local talent into measurable, intergenerational prosperity for every ward in Nyamira.
The county
Discover Nyamira
Nestled in the fertile Gusii Highlands of western Kenya, Nyamira is a landscape of rolling green hills, volcanic soils and year-round agricultural vitality — and a proud member of the Lake Region Economic Bloc.
The county borders Homa Bay to the north, Kisii to the west, Bomet and Kericho to the east, and Narok to the south. Its five sub-counties — Borabu, Manga, Masaba North, Nyamira North and Nyamira South — are served from Nyamira Town, with Keroka and Nyansiongo as the other major urban centres.

The economy
Agriculture is the undisputed backbone. County reports consistently put the sector at 80–90% of county GDP and the majority of employment, with agriculture, forestry and fishing forming the largest share of Gross County Product.
Beyond primary production, the openings lie in value addition, agribusiness, dairy commercialisation, cooperative modernisation, digital finance, climate-smart technologies, and the creative and tourism economies. Membership of the Lake Region Economic Bloc opens further pathways for regional trade, infrastructure corridors and shared investment platforms.
Agriculture & food systems
- Tea
- The leading income earner. High-altitude conditions produce quality green leaf for KTDA-managed factories, and the tea zones carry significant rural employment.
- Bananas
- The Gusii region is Kenya's premier banana-producing area. Cooking (matoke) and dessert varieties both thrive, with growing interest in processing and value-addition facilities.
- Dairy
- A substantial cattle population supports a vibrant dairy sector. County initiatives focus on improved breeds, artificial insemination, milk coolers, cooperative federation and commercialisation.
- Coffee
- A historic crop under revitalisation — quality seedlings, agronomy support and better market linkages through partnership.
- Horticulture
- Avocado promotion, soil-health programmes and climate-smart practice under national and county value-chain projects, including NAVCDP and climate finance windows such as FLLoCA.
- Fish & honey
- A growing number of fish ponds and beekeeping enterprises add to household nutrition and income.
The association
Who we are
The Nyamira Professionals Association is a non-partisan, non-religious, profession-based body of professionals from Nyamira County — founded on the conviction that the collective intellect, networks and values of Nyamira’s professionals are the county’s greatest untapped resource.
For over a decade NPA has grown into a structured, impact-driven organisation: technical clusters, active chapters at home and in the diaspora, continuous professional development, and partnership with the County Government of Nyamira in pursuit of the Nyamira2050 Vision.
Our mission
To fight social, political and economic injustices, marginalisation and discrimination through organised advocacy, and by holding leadership accountable. NPA engages in public-policy debate, pursues strategies that combat poverty, ignorance and disease, and works with all Nyamirans to advocate for and support the social, economic, technological and industrial transformation of Nyamira County.

Our governance architecture combines strategic oversight, executive leadership and technical depth — a General Assembly as the overall governing body, an Executive Committee running day-to-day affairs, and sub-committees and a secretariat beneath them.
A lifetime appointment providing wise counsel and moral authority to the Association.

Long horizon
Nyamira2050
A living, collaborative blueprint — the Association’s long-horizon vision for the county, co-created with the County Government of Nyamira through dedicated Technical Working Groups and the Nyamira2050 Design Team.
It positions professionals as partners in evidence-based planning, innovation, resource mobilisation and accountability. The Design Team, chaired by Dr Evans Atera and supported by a broad multi-disciplinary membership, continues to refine the sector strategies, investment models and monitoring frameworks that will guide our contribution through 2030 and beyond.
